Oregon Defensive Lineman Jordan Burch Ready to Face Ohio State After Missing First Meeting

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Oregon defensive lineman Jordan Burch is set to make a significant impact in the upcoming Rose Bowl against Ohio State after missing the first meeting between the two teams earlier this season due to injury. Burch, a senior defensive end, was sidelined in October due to a meniscus injury, but he is now healthy and ready to help the Ducks’ defense as they face off against the Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.

“I’m really excited to be back and have the opportunity to face a great team like Ohio State,” Burch said. “No matter who we were playing, I was going to be ready, but it’s extra special knowing that I’m back for such an important game.”

Burch has been a key player for Oregon this season, recording 30 tackles, 11 for loss, and 8.5 sacks in just nine games. His presence on the defensive line will bolster an already strong Oregon defense, which has been one of the top units in college football. Alongside teammates Matayo Uiagalelei and Teitum Tuioti, Burch helps form one of the best pass rush units in the nation. Oregon led the Big Ten with 40 sacks and has the fifth-best pass rush grade in the country, according to Pro Football Focus.

“We all know Jordan is a game-changer,” Oregon head coach Dan Lanning said. “When he’s on the field, we’re at full strength. Having a player of his caliber can make all the difference in big games, and we’re excited to have him back for this one.”

Burch will likely face off against Ohio State’s left tackle Donovan Jackson, who has had to adjust to the position after starting the season at guard. The Buckeyes have struggled with offensive line consistency due to injuries, including season-ending ones to key players like All-American center Seth McLaughlin and left tackle Josh Simmons. Burch’s return adds a powerful edge to Oregon’s already formidable pass rush, giving them a key advantage heading into the game.

Burch is determined to make the most of his return and play a pivotal role in helping Oregon succeed against Ohio State’s high-powered offense. “I’m ready to get after the quarterback and disrupt the game,” Burch said. “This is an opportunity we’ve been waiting for, and I can’t wait to do my part for the team.”

With Burch back in the lineup, Oregon’s defense is primed to give Ohio State a tough challenge in the Rose Bowl.
