It’s official: a series of terrifying dreams for. The Kazakhstani has now provided another depressing update after her recent problems prevented her from attending important events. Following her announcement of her resignation from the forthcoming in Beijing, which is scheduled to begin on September 25, Rybakina’s 2024 campaign took a serious hit. That was not the end of it, though. To make matters worse, Rybakina released a statement confirming that she was completely withdrawing from the Asian hardcourt circuit, claiming physical limitations and illness as the cause. The former World No. 3’s early exit from the US Open was caused by a back issue. She notably gave up on her matchup with Jessika Ponchet in the second round. As if things couldn’t get much worse, the 25-year-old continued to get alarming reports. Announcing her withdrawal from the American swing, Rybakina said, “Due to an ongoing back injury, I regretfully have to withdraw from the upcoming Asian tournaments. While I’ve been working hard on my recovery, my medical team and I have decided it’s best to prioritize my health at this time. This has been a challenging year and I am grateful for the support from the tournament organizers and all of my fans. My team and I will work on getting me back on the court before the season finale.”

But Rybakina isn’t the only elite player to withdraw from the China Open. Unexpectedly, a number of athletes have withdrawn from the WTA 1000 Masters.

Elena Rybakina is joined by Iga Swiatek and Danielle Collins on the China Open withdrawal list.
At the China Open, Elena Rybakina is joined by other athletes who are already listed on the lengthy list of withdrawals. First off, Iga Swiatek, the current world number one, will not be defending her championship in Beijing. For private reasons, the Pole removed her name from the list of competitors in the competition. Furthermore, due to fatigue, Swiatek did not show up at the Korea Open, much like Elena Rybakina did.Along with Swiatek and Rybakina, notable athletes Danielle Collins, Maria Sakkari, Elina Svitolina, Marketa Vondrousova, and Ons Jabuer have also withdrawn from the WTA 1000 Masters event. Rest assured, not one of the female contenders, including the senior brass, has withdrawn. The top-seeded player in the tournament, Aryna Sabalenka, who just won the US Open, is preparing to go for her fourth title of the year in Beijing. In addition, stars Emma Navarro, Paula Badosa, Jessica Pegula, and Coco Gauff are scheduled to play in Beijing.
