For almost five years, Michigan football fans had been accustomed to witnessing the Wolverines rule at The Big House. That all changed on Saturday afternoon when Michigan lost to Texas in one of the most lopsided losses the school has had in recent memory.

After the Wolverines’ 31-12 loss to the Longhorns on Saturday afternoon, MLive polled the crowd. The concerns that had emerged from the season-opening win over Fresno State have only intensified. Criticism has been aimed at the ongoing struggles on offense, the defensive shortcomings, the lack of a clear team identity, and most pointedly, the decision-making of first-year head coach Sherrone Moore.

“Dismal!” wrote Bob S. from Clarkston, MI. “Michigan lost a lot of talent but still has a fair amount of experience. It reminds me of the Rich Rod era.” Mason H. from Cincinnati, OH echoed similar frustrations, noting, “Coach Moore seems to have lost the identity of the offense. His play calls often don’t make sense for the situation.”Michigan’s issues on both sides of the ball were glaring throughout the game, particularly as the defense allowed 389 yards of offense to Texas, including three touchdown passes from Quinn Ewers.

Here are some more remarks about Michigan’s performance on Saturday:

It’s too soon to make a judgment. All were aware that the offense would require further development. This defense, which ought to have improved upon last year’s, is so awful that I am at a loss for words. Michigan ought to be reloading, not making a fresh start. Apologies, coach Martindale, but this defense sure looks a lot like Don Brown right now. From Orcas Island, Washington, Bill K.

It’s time to adjust. It appears like this year is a terrible mirror of last year, and the worst is still to come. From Twentynine Palms, California, John A. K.

“We reload, Michigan doesn’t rebuild,” stated Coach Moore. They must reconstruct the offensive line since that is not feasible.

“Michigan doesn’t rebuild; we reload,” stated Coach Moore. They must revamp the offensive line and the quarterback position because that is not feasible. – Sonora, Californian Greg M.

“The decline in ability and rivalry. That should come as no surprise given that they selected roughly 13 players and overhauled their coaching staff. The group must identify its leaders and identity. From Jenison, Michigan, Rob

“No talent, the portal should have included a quarterback.” – Farmington, Michigan’s Gary

“With all new, inexperienced coaches and a dearth of talent on both sides of the ball, we are going back to the Brady Hoke era.” MJ from Florida’s Sarasota

“After losing eighteen starters and taking home the national championship, this year is a rebuild,”
