OH MY GOD: Jalin Hyatt is dominating Giants defenders in training…
Training camp has just started across the NFL, but former Tennessee football star Jalin Hyatt isn’t waiting to show the New York Giants why they drafted him. Daniel Jones is back at quarterback, and the QB-WR duo looks to have a strong connection early in camp.
Giants reporters, blogs, podcasts, and fans have shared numerous videos of Hyatt showing off his speed and route running in the early days of training camp.
Hyatt has unreal speed, and everyone knows that, but he was knocked for his catching and route-running ability heading into the NFL Draft. Most notably, Giants’ rival Dallas Cowboys were critical of Hyatt’s ability to play wide receiver at a high level in the NFL.
He’s quickly proving the naysayers wrong in camp this year. As Doug Rush mentions, it’s still early, but it’s hard not to get excited over the Giants finally using Hyatt out wide by combining his speed and route running against defenders in the secondary.
If the Giants can mirror Josh Heupel’s utilization of Hyatt’s receiver skills, they could be in for a good season this year. Hyatt didn’t see a lot of action in 2023 as a rookie, but it looks like that could change based on what we’re seeing out of the early days of camp.
Hyatt was a third-round draft pick by the Giants in 2023 and had 23 catches for 373 yards as a rookie. He didn’t find the end zone in his first year in the league, but a healthy Jones at quarterback could help Hyatt get his first NFL touchdown this season.
The Giants’ preseason begins on Thursday, August 8, against the Detroit Lions. That will be the first time we will see Hyatt in Year Two. The Giants’ season officially begins one month later, on September 8, against the Minnesota Vikings.
