Leeds United owner 49ers Enterprises “absolutely” should pay Sheffield United’s asking price to sign Jayden Bogle, according to Danny Mills.
The Whites are understood to have had two transfer offers rejected by the Blades for the right-back this summer [The Star, 16 July], with Chris Wilder’s side reportedly valuing him in the region of £7million [Alan Nixon, 14 July].
While it remains to be seen if Leeds will match that asking price, Sky Sports pundit Mills admits that sort of fee would be a “small price to pay” if it helps them return to the Premier League this season.
As quoted by Football League World on Tuesday (16 July) he said: “Absolutely. He has good potential and this can be a good signing for Leeds United.
Leeds United simply have to sign a new right-back this summer.
While a new addition on the right of may not be the most exciting news for supporters, it will be a necessity if Leeds want to return to the Premier League at the second time of asking this season.
Archie Gray spent the bulk of last season playing out of position in that role, but with his big-money move to Tottenham completed and the Whites showing no interest in re-signing Connor Roberts, new signings are needed.
Partner that with the fact that Rasmus Kristensen appears set to depart Elland Road once again this summer and the need for new additions is only growing and Bogle appears to be the perfect solution.
“With other players potentially departing, recruitment is key, and it’s vital Leeds United look to strengthen the squad with quality as they must start the season better than last year.
£7million is a small price to pay if he can help the squad to promotion this year.
As Mills suggests, he knows the league well and has plenty of room to improve in the future. While £7million may be more than Leeds want to pay at this moment in time, it could well be what is required to get the deal over the line.
Hopefully, the 49ers will back and his recruitment team and give the German the money to get his man this summer.
