Kate Garraway heartbreaking way of including Derek in Darcey’s milestone birthday…
Speaking to Lorraine Kelly this Wednesday, Myleene shared a heart-warming anecdote about Kate Garraway as she remembered the pair included Derek Draper in Darcey’s birthday.
Kate Garraway made sure that her late husband Derek Draper was included in their daughter’s 18th birthday.
Myleene Lorraine Kelly’s guest on the presenter’s eponymous ITV show this Wednesday, June 26, as she spoke about her bond with the Good Morning Britain star.
During their chat, the singer revealed that she had helped Kate Darcey’s birthday in early March, 2024, adding that they also found a venue close enough to Derek to include the late political lobbyist in the celebrations.
“It’s been lovely to be there for her she has been through a lot”, Myleene first pointed out, in reference to Derek’s death earlier this year and her financial struggles as Lorraine questioned her over their friendship, the result of them working on radio, and reminded Myleene that Kate “needs her pals.
She then recalled one of Kate’s phone calls during which Myleene was convinced she would be asking for advice on technology. “She called me up and she said: ‘can you help me out?’ and I thought it was going to be a techy question.”
But Myleene was surprised when she was told Kate needed help with Darcey’s birthday, two months after losing her beloved husband to Covid-19. “It was: ‘can you help me put a birthday party up for my daughter in three days? Myleene accepted and involved her own family in the efforts.
Speaking about their choice of venue, picked among other options to allow both Darcey and Kate to be near Derek, Myleene added:
We wanted to make one for her to remember and the reason it was so tricky was we moved the entire party to a venue that I had booked into her house because she (Darcey) wanted to be close to her dad.
After successfully managing to celebrate her daughter’s milestone birthday with Derek nearby, Kate decided to his memory on Father’s Day (June 16, 2024) by visiting his grave.
Over on social media, she’d then shared an emotional message, writing: “So yesterday was one of those days the kids & I knew would be tough . #fathersday – the day when everyone wants to celebrate their daddy.
We started by visiting Derek’s grave early – and talked about all the amazing things we loved about him, the daft things he did to make us laugh and all the things he has given us that we’ll never forget. We have so much to be grateful for.
We’re also so grateful to still have my amazing dad in our lives and Derek’s dad too. Brilliant Papa & Grandad. Then thanks to my fab @global family we went to the #capitalsummertimeball – an amazing day of music & summer joy.”
But despite her gratitude, Kate had noted: “It was sad coming home & not finding Derek waiting to hear ‘all about it’ as he used to say. But so wonderful that we had him at all.
I know for so many yesterday would have been a tough day so here’s to getting through and let’s celebrate all the wonderful fathers & father figures & what they gift us everyday . #love #gratitude #letscelebratelife.
