Despite numerous injuries on the roster, the New York Yankees have performed admirably this season.
New York is one of only three teams in the American League with 19 wins, and what makes it even more impressive is that the club achieved this success despite missing some key players. Gerrit Cole and D.J. LeMahieu are undoubtedly New York’s most serious injuries, but the team has also battled with other issues.
The Yankees boast one of baseball’s best bullpens, but they have been missing one of their top relievers. Nick Burdi has been out since being placed on the injured list due to right hip irritation.
New York surely misses him, but he may not be out for long, as he is scheduled to pitch a bullpen in Somerset, according to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch.
“Yankees injury updates: (right-handed pitcher) Gerrit Cole: ‘good day’ playing catch in New York,” Hoch told the media.(Third baseman) Jon Berti is expected to play with Somerset tonight. Tommy Kahnle, a right-handed pitcher, will take live batting practice in Tampa tomorrow. Nick Burdi, a right-handed pitcher, is throwing a bullpen in Somerset.
Burdi has performed admirably for the Yankees this season, allowing no earned runs. The hard-throwing righty has already featured in seven games this season, allowing no runs and striking out eight batters in 6 1/3 innings thrown.
