“I remember thinking she was the prettiest girl I had ever met, and I wanted to get to know her,” he told Inside Weddings.
The two met in the weight room during early morning workouts and became friends. Gerrit asked Amy out, but she didn’t say yes for more than a year. A love gesture from the future MLB pitcher eventually swayed her decision.
