On April 25, the Las Vegas Raiders entered the 2024 NFL Draft with eight picks over three days.

In an ideal world, the Raiders would have selected a franchise quarterback in the first round on Thursday night. However, by the time the Raiders were on the clock at No. 13, the top six quarterbacks had already been selected, so the Raiders got a new offensive weapon in Georgia tight end Brock Bowers.

In the second round, the Raiders addressed their offensive line problems by picking Oregon’s Jackson Powers-Johnson, who can play guard or centre. In the third round, they stuck in the trenches and drafted Maryland offensive tackle Delmar Glaze.

To rationalise this decision, consider Brock Bowers as a pass catcher rather than a tight end. Bowers’ versatility, combined with last year’s second-round tight end Michael Mayer, makes for a significant coup. To make this work, the Raiders will need to use a lot of their 12 personnel. Excellent bargain, but did Bowers serve a need?
