Novak Djokovic has announced that he has split from coach Goran Ivanisevic.
The relationship was enormously successful, with Djokovic having the most dominant time of his career in his early and mid-30s. Ivanisevic took over as Djokovic’s main coach in March 2022, having previously worked with his long-time mentor Marian Vajda for several years.
The world number one stated that he and Ivanisevic split ways “a few days ago,” saying on Instagram, “I remember clearly the moment I invited Goran to be a part of my team.” Back in 2018, Marian and I were trying to innovate and add some serve magic to our tandem.
“In fact, not only did we bring serve, but also tonnes of laughter, fun, year-end No. 1 rankings, record-breaking accomplishments, and 12 more Grand Slams [and a few finals] to the table since then. Did I mention some drama? Goran and I agreed to quit working together a few days ago. Our on-court chemistry fluctuated, but our friendship remained rock-solid.
“In fact, I am glad to mention [not sure he is] that, in addition to winning tournaments together, we also had a side war in [the board game] Parchisi that lasted for many years. And the tournament never stops for us. Thank you for everything, pal. “I love you.”
Djokovic had one of his greatest seasons in 2023, winning three grand slam titles and losing an emotional Wimbledon final to Carlos Alcaraz, but this news comes at a difficult moment for the 36-year-old, who had recently parted ways with his longtime agents. He lost his first match in the Australian Open since 2018 to Jannik Sinner, followed by a shock defeat over Italian Luca Nardi at Indian Wells earlier this month, before deciding not to compete at
