Pittsburgh — The Pittsburgh Steelers have two fresh new quarterbacks, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, although both are on one-year contracts. So, anything beyond this season is a mystery – and a guess – with one source expecting a change of scenery for Fields.

FanSided’s Christopher Kline believes Fields might return to the NFC next offseason, joining the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas has significant concern about their quarterback after this season, and many feel Dak Prescott will find a new home in 2025.

“Odds are the Pittsburgh Steelers will decline Justin Fields’ $25.7 million contract option for next season, sending the former first-round pick into free agency,” Kline wrote in an email. “Fields is the clear successor to Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh, at least in principle. However, if Fields winds up riding the pine all season as projected, he may be enticed to find a better home.”

The Steelers have until May 2 to exercise Fields’ fifth-year option. They aren’t anticipated to, but that doesn’t mean they won’t consider him after this season. Even if Fields’ option is not picked up, Pittsburgh may still extend him.

Right now, Wilson is anticipated to start for the Steelers in 2024, but there will be competition. Fields is fighting from behind, but that does not rule him out as the Week 1 starter. Still, everything from today is unknown.
