Iowa and LSU created history on Monday night in the Elite Eight of the women’s NCAA basketball championship, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.
Despite being broadcast on cable and taking place earlier in the tournament, the highly anticipated rematch between these two powerhouse teams not only eclipsed their historic national championship game a year ago, but also set a new record for women’s college basketball viewership.
According to ESPN, 12.3 million people watched the thrilling duel between Iowa and LSU, making it the most-viewed women’s college basketball game in history as well as the most-watched college basketball game on any ESPN platform.
Last year’s duel between two heavyweights set the previous record, but Monday’s game surpassed it, with an astonishing 16.1 million viewers.
The Hawkeyes won 94-87, denying LSU a second consecutive championship.
Caitlin Clark, Iowa’s top guard, stole the show with an outstanding effort, scoring 41 points, 12 assists, and seven rebounds.

Iowa prepares to face UConn.
With this victory, Iowa advanced to the Final Four, where they will face UConn, who defeated USC 80-73.
The last time these two teams faced in the tournament was in the Sweet 16 in 2021, with UConn winning.
However, Iowa is ready to bring their A-game and rewrite history in this much-anticipated rematch.
