Today, the Milwaukee Brewers won game one of their three-game series against the New York Mets. The Brewers’ opening day game was rescheduled due to inclement weather, but the wait proved worthwhile for fans. Many people questioned how the team would do without its star, Corbin Burnes, and how the young players would perform. It may have only been one game, and it may have been against the Mets, who do not have a strong pitching staff on paper, but the 3-1 victory gave the Brew Crew fans optimism.

Freddy Peralta entered today’s game as the team’s new ace, and he pitched like one. He pitched six excellent innings, striking out eight Mets, walking one, and allowing one hit, a home run to Sterling Marte. Overall, Freddy had 13 swings and misses today, resulting in eight strikeouts. His four-seam fastball reached 95.1 mph today, and he did an excellent job mixing in his change-up while using his curveball and slider to keep the hitters off balance throughout the game. Peralta has only played one game, but he appears to be ready to take over as the Brewers’ ace. If the right-hander can stay healthy, he will likely have 200 strikeouts this season.

Devon Williams, the Brewers’ top closer, is slated to miss two months while recovering from back problems, raising questions about who might close games for the Brewers this season. Today, they sent out Trevor Megill in the seventh inning, where he allowed no hits and walked one batter, earning him a hold. Joel Payamps entered the game in the eighth inning and allowed no hits while striking out two in a clean inning, earning a hold. Abner Uribe was given the save opportunity and pitched a spotless ninth inning, earning his first save of the season. As previously said, Peralta has only played one game versus the Mets.
