The Detroit Lions re-signed veteran quarterback Nate Sudfeld, the organisation announced on social media.

Sudfeld will most likely compete with Hendon Hooker for the backup spot behind veteran quarterback Jared Goff.

Hooker, despite being the scout team quarterback at the end of the season, has limited playing experience in both the preseason and the regular season.

The veteran backup joined the Lions in 2022, but he spent the whole 2023 season on the injured reserve list after injuring his ACL during training camp.

Detroit’s coaching staff presumably expected Sudfeld to play a supporting role in the quarterbacks’ room.

With Teddy Bridgewater retiring and David Blough taking over as Washington’s assistant quarterbacks coach, Detroit’s coaching staff and Mark Brunell were likely comfortable with the 30-year-old returning for another season.

Dan Campbell raises the standards.

After a season in which the team was 30 minutes away from playing in the Super Bowl, head coach Dan Campbell recognised during the annual league meeting that the standards would be significantly higher throughout the 2024 season.

“That’s how we made it. That is what we have done jointly. “We’ve raised the bar, and we won’t accept anything less,” Campbell added. “If we’re going to say it, it’ll need a lot of labour, attention, passion, and urgency. And, by the way, it must be better than last year.”
