Trevor Bauer, a former Major League Baseball pitcher, resumed his pitching showcase on Sunday by tossing three scoreless innings for the Diablos Rojos de Mexico in an exhibition game against the New York Yankees.

Bauer signed with the Diablos Rojos last week and made his debut start on Sunday in Mexico City, scattering four hits, striking out three batters, walking two, and allowing no runs in three innings.

“My command was somewhat off. “I would have preferred not to walk two people,” Bauer stated. “It was my first time pitching at this altitude, so the ball moved slightly differently. But today was a good day. “The fans were incredible.”

Earlier this month, Bauer, 33, tossed three scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers, his most recent MLB team in 2021. He was fired by the Dodgers in June 2021 after a California woman filed a sexual assault lawsuit against him, and MLB placed him on administrative leave before suspending him for a league-record 324 games in April 2022, which is equivalent to two full seasons. The punishment was later reduced to 194 games.

The case against Bauer, as well as a related action he brought against his accuser in April 2022, were resolved in October 2023 when both parties agreed to a non-monetary settlement.

Bauer, the 2020 National League Cy Young Award winner, has expressed a desire to sign with an MLB team and continue his career after spending the 2023 season with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball. He stated that the opportunity to pitch against the Yankees and effectively audition for an MLB job influenced his choice to sign with the Diablos Rojos.
