The Cleveland Browns stunned many people last season by making the playoffs despite missing their starting quarterback and running back for most of the season. Kevin Stefanski was named Coach of the Year for successfully revitalising Joe Flacco’s career.
Deshaun Watson will be expected to emulate Flacco’s performance in 2024. Mostly because Cleveland cannot get out of his ridiculous contract.

The Browns have spent so much money on Watson that they are the most expensive offence to put together in the NFL.
Clearly, it is not only Watson. Cleveland has signed Jerry Jeudy, whom they traded for, to a contract worth roughly $20 million per year.
Jeudy joins Amari Cooper in the wide receiver room, where he gets $20 million each season. Nick Chubb earns more than double digits, and the offensive line will cost more than $50 million this season as a whole.
This would be OK if the Browns were an offensive powerhouse, but they haven’t been with Watson at quarterback. He underwhelmed in his first half-season with Cleveland after being suspended. He didn’t play well in 2023 either, before being hurt.
Perhaps surrounding him with a quick pass-catcher like Jeudy will help, but Jeudy himself raises several questions. He has never had a 1,000-yard season and has previously battled with drops and poor mental concentration.
