It was another dismal season finale for the Dallas Cowboys, who you’d think would have done better after Jerry Jones’ “all in” words. So, what are the Cowboys doing? We’ve all heard Jerry Jones’ “all in” words, and I’m sure they excited Cowboys supporters.
The Cowboys have gone 12-5 in the regular season the last three years, but they have failed to advance past the Divisional Round in the playoffs, as they have done most years. With the current coaching staff in the final year of their contract and Jones signalling the team was going all in, everything we’ve seen from the Cowboys thus far should make every other NFC team laugh.
According to the free agency tracker at NFL.com, they have made four moves. The signings include RB Rico Dowdle, LB Erick Kendricks, CB Jourdan Lewis, and LS Trent Sieg.
Yes, that’s it. If you’re a Cowboys fan, you’re probably not going to be very enthused about four lacklustre moves. Dak Prescott is likely to be extended, and CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons are also in need of contract extensions. The Dallas Cowboys have a tight salary cap, which could explain why they haven’t been very active in free agency.
Notably, they lost Dan Quinn, who left to become the head coach of the Washington Commanders. Mike Zimmer, their new defensive coordinator, is undoubtedly a good defensive mind, but it’s reasonable to expect the defence to regress in his first year. And, with the Cowboys’ running back, offensive line and wide receiver positions deteriorating this offseason, head coach Mike McCarthy’s 2024 season could be difficult.
