The Detroit Lions are in a good situation with respect to the salary cap.

After spending in free agency, the team still has slightly more than $27 million in cap room.

The team’s draft budget is estimated to cost around $9 million, leaving about $18 million.

Typically, general manager Brad Holmes likes to store money for a rainy day during the season, which means the team could still sign one or two competitively priced free agents this offseason without depleting reserves.

In 2024, Detroit will be accountable for $23,054,506 in dead cap payments owed to various players who are no longer on the roster.

Holmes and the front management have made strategic decisions about signing external free agents.

“You don’t really know these players,” Holmes said. “You see what you see on film, but as I’ve previously stated, that is the easy coherent part. Can a guy get off the football? Ok. That’s easy. But you don’t really know them, and that’s why you have to be so careful.”

The legal situation involving cornerback Cam Sutton has the potential to increase the amount of money available if the organisation decides to terminate his contract and seek cap relief.

Here’s how the Lions presently stack up against the salary cap, according to Spotrac.
