On Tuesday, the Houston Texans signed tight end Dalton Schultz to a three-year, $36 million contract extension.

Schultz was coming off the second-most productive season of his career, fulfilling a one-year contract that brought him to Houston. He spent the first five years of his career with the Dallas Cowboys, catching touchdown passes from quarterback Dak Prescott.

After signing his deal and no longer having to worry about the ramifications of his statements playing poorly on the open market, he had the time to speak openly about his previous league experiences.

“That was one of the first things that stood out to me. It feels lot more like – I don’t want to say college because it isn’t – but the emphasis [in Houston] is just football, you know what I mean?” Schultz stated. “I’m going back and telling some folks about being around the Cowboys practice facility and gameday, and detailing some of the relationships and things you witness on a daily basis, which surprises a lot of people.

“They are like, ‘Holy crap, that actually happens at a practice facility?'” You believe it’s normal until you get to a location like this.”

Schultz went on to compare the Dallas weight room to a zoo, claiming that spectators were constantly watching them.

That, of course, is a creature created by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. For better or worse, Dallas is constantly in the spotlight. It’s one hell of a method to earn a profit, however some claim it takes away their prospects of achieving expectations set by the media.

“It’s different,” Schultz added. “That’s the brand they’ve created, Jerry likes it, and that’s how they do things. And there’s nothing wrong with it; it’s just that you don’t realize how many eyeballs that could possibly distract from everything in the locker room until you go.
