The 49ers’ coaching staff is stacked with former Seahawks, and K.J. Wright is a welcome addition this offseason.
Despite the strong NFC West rivalry between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, there’s no disputing that many players and coaches have switched between the two teams throughout the years.
Of course, the most noteworthy could be perennial All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman, who was formerly the Niners’ number one villain before turning traitor and joining San Francisco in 2018, where he is now idolized by the entire 49ers crowd.
There are lots of others, though. Brian Schneider, the Niners’ current special teams coordinator, previously worked for the Hawks, and new defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen began his NFL coaching career in Seattle as well.
Another Seahawks alum has joined San Francisco’s coaching staff.
Former Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright announced he is joining the 49ers staff.
On Monday, former Hawks linebacker K.J. Wright announced on YouTube that the 49ers had hired him to their coaching staff.
“I am very excited,” Wright said in his announcement. “I am overjoyed for this opportunity. I’m overjoyed that the Niners organization believes in me and trusts me with their franchise. I’ve been battling with those guys since day one. “My first NFL game was against the 49ers.”
Wright, who entered the league as a fourth-round NFL Draft pick by Seattle in 2011, will be San Francisco’s next assistant linebackers/defensive quality control coach following a 10-year tenure with the Seahawks that ended in 2021.
During that time, Wright appeared in 161 games, starting 148 of them, and recorded 992 tackles, 11 forced fumbles, 54 passes broken up, and six interceptions. He also made it to one Pro Bowl in 2016.
