Canterbury has signed NRL premiership winner Zane Tetevano for a one-year contract, bolstering their front pack.

The 33-year-old, who formerly played for the Leeds Rhinos in the Super League, is now expected to conclude his career with the Bulldogs in Australia.

Tetevano joins the struggling club with over 120 first-class games under his belt, as well as three international appearances for New Zealand.

The front-rower appeared in the Sydney Roosters’ 2018 grand final victory and is set to be considered for selection in the early rounds after passing a recent medical assessment and beginning training at Belmore.
“Zane is a highly respected senior player who will bring leadership and work ethic to our group,” Phil Gould said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon

Tetevano joins Max King and Poasa Faamausili as front-row alternatives for the Dogs, while the development of rising gun Samuel Hughes – who recently inked an extension – puts the team in a strong position heading into the 2024 season.

“I think everyone will point out the fact that we are struggling for depth in the middle forwards, which is obvious – we know that,” he told Wide World of Sports’ Six Tackles With Gus before the season began.

“We need the ones that are there to stand up. Last year, we had to expose a lot of young fellas who weren’t ready.

Canterbury’s NRL campaign will begin against the Eels on March 9.Gould had previously recognized the club’s issues in the middle-forward rotation, with Tetevano’s arrival easing a difficult situation for head coach Cameron Ciraldo.
