For the 2023–2024 college basketball season, two players from UNC Basketball have been added to the Preseason Player of the Year Watch List.

Two Tar Heels have been named to the Naismith Preseason Player of the Year Watch List, it was revealed on Monday afternoon. This news comes as the UNC basketball program gets ready to start the 2023–2024 NCAA basketball season this evening.

Both senior RJ Davis and senior Armando Bacot, who is in his fifth year, were added to the National Player of the Year Watch List. This offseason, Davis was added to the Cousy Award Watch List. Bacot, meanwhile, has amassed a plethora of preseason accolades, including First-Team All-ACC, AP Preseason First-Team All-American, and inclusion among the 20 players on the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award Watch List.

Both players are important returnees for the UNC basketball team, and come March, they want to help lead this revamped Tar Heels squad to a deep tournament run.

There are 50 names on the Naismith Preseason Player of the Year Watch List for both men’s and women’s college basketball at the beginning of the season. The final 30 finalists will be chosen from the list at the halfway point of the collegiate basketball season. The best player in the country is given this honor, which is decided by a vote of coaches, administrators, and media.
