Next season, a former quarterback prospect for the Atlanta Falcons may find a new home that includes a reunion with his old coach.
There may be a reunion between Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill and Atlanta Falcons coach Arthur Smith, according to NFL Network insiders.
According to NFL.com, “Pittsburgh is expected to explore adding free agent Ryan Tannehill, who had his best years with the Titans while Smith was the OC there.” Smith takes over as offensive coordinator.
Following Matt Canada’s firing by the Falcons last month, Smith was eventually hired by the Steelers to take over as offensive coordinator.
ANNOUNCEMENT: Kenny Pickett announce resignation and departure from Pittsburgh Steelers
For a long time, there were rumors that Tannehill may be the quarterback target for the Falcons, particularly if Smith had stayed on as Atlanta’s coach for one more season. Smith was let go following three seasons in a row where his record was 7–10.Smith got back together with Marcus Mariota in 2022; the two had previously collaborated in Tennessee. For the Falcons, Mariota started 13 games, but he was unable to turn around his career and become a reliable starter.
It’s unclear if Tannehill would be counted on to replace second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett or serve as backup. In any case, it appears that the two might collaborate once more in Pittsburgh.
