Son of legendary Pittsburgh Steelers player Plaxico Burress, Elijah Burress declared his college commitment on Saturday.
Like his father, Burress is a wide receiver, and he recently declared his commitment to Notre Dame.
According to 247 Sports, Elijah is a three-star recruit. His junior year at New Jersey’s DePaul Catholic just ended.
According to 247 Sports, Elijah received 11 scholarship offers, with Notre Dame being the most prestigious university among them. Burress thought of Duke as well.
According to MaxPreps, Burress had five touchdowns and 25 receptions for 434 yards as a junior in 2023.
From 1998 to 1999, Burress’ father was a Michigan State player under Nick Saban. With the Spartans, Plaxico caught 118 passes for 1,970 yards and 17 touchdowns in just two seasons. The Steelers selected him with the eighth overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, and throughout his six seasons with Pittsburgh, he amassed 4,206 yards and 23 touchdowns. From 2005 to 2008, Burress was a standout player for the New York Giants. He contributed 33 touchdown receptions to the Giants’ Super Bowl victory.
Guess who is available to take over as head football coach for the UCLA Bruins? None other than Pete Carroll, a longtime adversary.
Following the conclusion of the NFC West team’s season, Carroll was released by the Seattle Seahawks. Despite having guided the Seahawks to two straight 9–8 seasons and a postseason trip, Seattle’s management chose to fire the 72-year-old head coach.
Just over a month ago, Carroll was still coaching at a very high level. He wishes to carry on as a coach. Additionally, the Bruins require something to energize their support base.
Carroll isn’t a sustainable fix. 2009 was his last year as a coach at USC. He hasn’t played college ball in fifteen years. However, Carroll might be the coach the Bruins are looking for—someone who is well-liked by the players, someone who would spark some interest outside of Los Angeles, and someone who could revitalize the team for a brief period of time.
Martin Jarmond, the athletic director of UCLA, has stated that he will work promptly with the incoming coach of the club. Perhaps he already has a plan in place. However, he ought to at least phone Carroll to inquire about his interest in switching to Westwood. If the Bruins were to hire the former Trojans leader, that would certainly make for a story. Many are aware of it.
