Barrett Ruud, an assistant coach and former player for Nebraska, is returning to the NFL.

The Atlanta Falcons announced on Friday that Ruud, who served as Scott Frost’s inside linebackers coach for the Huskers from 2018 to 2022, will be joining them in the same capacity. The majority of the NU staff was let go during the program’s transition to coach Matt Rhule, therefore Ruud did not coach the previous season.

Since Jan. 25, when Raheem Morris was appointed head coach of Atlanta, the team has been expanding its coaching staff. Morris was a staff member and Ruud was a regular linebacker for Tampa Bay throughout the 2000s, when they spent several seasons together. Morris eventually joined the Bucs in 2009 and 2010 as head coach under Ruud.

The Nebraska team record for career tackles (432) is currently held by Ruud. The 2005 second-round draft selection was a Lincoln Southeast product.
