Pittsburgh Gerald Alexander, the assistant defensive backs coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, was hired by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024 to become their safety coach. Additionally, one former player has indicated that he is open to the idea of joining them given the opening on their coaching staff. Mike Mitchell, a former safety for the Steelers, has served as the Indianapolis Colts’ assistant DB coach for the past two seasons. In response to Mark Kaboly of The

Athletic bringing up the possibility of Mitchell joining the Steelers, Mitchell said, “Would be an honour and an amazing opportunity.”

Mitchell was a 2014–2017 Steelers player. He retired in 2018 and began his coaching career in 2022 with the Colts, where he is still employed now. With Alexander gone, head coach of Pittsburgh Mike Tomlin stated he anticipates changes to his coaching staff this season. Perhaps as a result, the team is willing to talk to Mitchell.
