West Ham United join Chelsea in the January transfer race for Jhon Duran, with Aston Villa’s viewpoint shared.

According to The Sun, West Ham have contacted Aston Villa about signing Jhon Duran before the January transfer window shuts.

Alan Nixon wrote for the publication’s web version on Saturday [20 January] that Chelsea is also a fan of the Colombian international.

According to the article, Villa are reluctant to do business with Duran until a large offer is made, but the striker is open to moving away.

Exciting talent

Given the ties to Victor Boniface, Armando Broja, and now Duran, West Ham are certainly looking for a striker this month.

That is the most important area for improvement, and it is the missing link in guaranteeing the Irons have a world-class front three.

Duran had previously been on United’s radar, but Villa completed a contract with the Chicago Fire around this time last year.

The Colombian hasn’t exactly ripped up the Premier League, scoring only two goals in 26 appearances over the last 12 months.

However, none of those appearances have been a start, and word is that Duran is a tremendously exciting player who simply has to play more frequently.

If the price is right, this is a potentially profitable move. However, if Villa want more than the £15 million they paid last year, perhaps not.

In any case, some new blood must be recruited at the top within the next two weeks.

In unrelated West Ham news, a Sky Sports reporter believes that United are currently in particular talks with a club about signing one of their top targets.
