Pittsburgh — After hearing his former head coach lament not turning him into a Super Bowl champion, former Pittsburgh Steelers centre Maurkice Pouncey responded with a touching statement.

Head coach Mike Tomlin was questioned about the necessity of winning a Super Bowl for players like Cam Heyward during his season-ending press conference. In response, he remarked that his players constantly feel pressure, adding that one of his greatest regrets is that Pouncey never won a world championship.

“I believe that’s how I always move. You know, I think every year you can name guys like that who should be champions, and you want them to have that taste. For example, I think one of my biggest professional disappointments is that Maurkice Pouncey isn’t a world champion because that guy is,” Tomlin remarked. “And so, that is a motivating factor for me certainly, but continually it is.”

After hearing what his former head coach had to say, Pouncey responded on Instagram with the following: “Coach T, you mean the world, but never regret it. Thank you.” I will always be grateful to you for making me a champion in life.”

Pouncey appeared in nine Pro Bowls, was chosen for the 2010 All-Decade Team, and concluded his career with five All-Pro choices. The centre, who was predicted to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, never did win a Super Bowl but ended up becoming one of the best offensive lineman in Steelers history.
