The Conservative MP Dean Russell has revealed he had a heart attack last August and has encouraged people to be more aware of potential symptoms.
During Wednesday’s Prime Minister’s Questions, the Watford MP made the request.
He expressed gratitude for his care at the West London Harefield Hospital, Watford General Hospital, and the East of England Ambulance Service.
Because of his prior work with the British Heart Foundation, Mr. Russell, 47, was able to identify the symptoms of a heart attack.
In his former position as a marketing and communications professional, he had worked on projects with the organisation fifteen years prior.
He stated: “At the age of only 47, a heart attack was never something I expected to happen to me.”
Mr. Russell gave the British Heart Foundation credit for helping him identify the symptoms in time to prevent death.
He urged people to get more information from the charity, saying that the “experience was a reminder that prevention is better than a cure.”
The British Heart Foundation’s chief executive, Dr. Charmaine Griffiths, commended the MP for sharing his story candidly.
