Star Slugger for the Houston Astros ‘Rebound’ Candidate in 2024

Some players on the Houston Astros must improve upon their 2023 performances as they approach the 2024 campaign. Jose Abreu, the past MVP, is ranked highest on that list.

Before the season begins, Abreu, who will turn 37, had a difficult year for the most part. He slashed through the worst season of his career.237/.296/.383 and ended up with only 18 home runs, which was his second-lowest total ever.

Perhaps ageing is catching up to him and he’s not as good at hitting as he once was, as evidenced by his career-low of 15 home runs the previous season.

But even if he reverts to half of the player he was before the last two years, it still makes this Astros lineup even more frightening. As to MLB.com’s Thomas Harrigan, Abreu has a lot of work ahead of him in 2019; but, the right-handed slugger might make a comeback.

Harrigan mentions his gains towards the end of the season and during their playoff run. Abreu struck.295/.354/.591 in 11 games during the 2023 postseason with four home runs and thirteen RBIs.

Even though he had a difficult season for the most part of it, he did demonstrate at the end that he still had it in him. He has to deliver after agreeing to a three-year, $58.5 million contract. If not, Houston might consider trading for him.

After what he accomplished in the postseason, there is hope going into the 2024 campaign. Astros supporters witnessed, at the very least, that he can produce when it counts most.
