Stars Aaron Morley and Will Forrester of the Bolton Wanderers were present today to assist in the opening of the first-ever Bolton Community Run 10K, which will see thousands of runners begin and finish the race at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
Working in partnership with Bolton Wanderers FC, Bolton Council, Bolton CVS and Burnden Road Runners, the club’s official charity, Bolton Wanderers in the Community, are the organisers of the new run on the Sunday, April 28. The event will be open to those looking to run for fun, take on a personal challenge or to raise funds for charity.
Wanderers midfielder Aaron Morley stated: “We’re happy to be able to come down today and support the community by helping them kick off the 10K run.
“I’m confident that it will be an amazing occasion and that the supporters will put on their running shoes to help the numerous charities that will gain from it.”
Bolton Wanderers chairwoman Sharon Brittan stated: “We are incredibly proud and excited to introduce this new major event in Bolton’s calendar.”
“We want to make sure our Club is a platform for good in our town and community, and so we are delighted to be able to host this event which will provide the opportunity to not only offer people a personal challenge but also to raise funds for a local Bolton charity close to their heart.”
Runners have the option to run and raise money for Bolton Wanderers in the Community, who assist and work with over 15,000 Bolton locals annually, or they can choose to run for any charity of their choice.
“I know the amazing Bolton community will be out in force again to cheer all the runners on the 10km route,” stated Sue Johnson, chief executive of Bolton Council.
We are excited about another exciting sporting event in our community because we understand the significance of this race for all of the local runners, whether they are seasoned competitors or first-timers.
Since the council is constantly trying to add new events, we would want to sponsor the Bolton Community 10K Run and help highlight all that Bolton has to offer.
All skill levels are welcome to participate in this event, which will begin at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, go up De Havilland Way, turn onto Chorley New Road towards Bolton, and then head back up Chorley New Road to the stadium.
