The Pittsburgh Steelers have had an odd season, but despite this, they are in the playoffs and have no cause for concern regarding their opponents. Naturally, considering that the team’s head coach hinted he might not be around for this season, it’s difficult to ignore thoughts of what lies next for them.

Given the current state of the Pittsburgh Steelers and their history, it’s difficult to ignore the odd timing ofMike Tomlin’s rumoured remarks. The 51-year-old still has one year left on his current contract, but he recently st ated that he would like to talk to his family about his future plans before determining whether to coach the team again next season. Additionally, the source stated that the team’s intention is to extend Tomlin’s contract during the offseason. It’s unclear whether or not that will occur.

For background, it’s important to note that, with the Patriots’ split with Bill Belichick, Tomlin is currently the NFL’s coach with the longest stay with a single franchise. Since assuming the position for the first time in 2007, he has managed a team that has made 11 postseason visits, won two AFC titles, seven division titles, and a Super Bowl. The fact that h

e is the first-ever NFL coach to have coached a team without a losing record for 17 straight seasons lends even more credence. All of this to say, the franchise would suffer a huge loss if he were to depart.

The Steelers and Buffalo Bills will play their final Super Wild Card weekend game on Monday. It was not intended to be like that, incidentally, but bad weather in Buffalo compelled the postponing of the fight. It should be noted that considering the season the Steelers had, it is impressive that they are in the playoffs. The Steelers lost their next three games after trailing 7–4, at which point Tomlin openly chastised his team, and it seems to have had the desired effect.

Additionally, he made a crucial choice by giving quarterback Mason Rudolph the starting gig, to which the signal caller heroically reacted. After that, the team finished the season with three straight victories and a postseason berth. In the end, there has been no additional information released regarding Tomlin’s plans, so for the time being, all we can do is watch his upcoming game, which may be his final. In Buffalo, kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET.
