Raleigh, North Carolina — Daylan Smothers, another explosive playmaker, has joined NC State’s outstanding list of committed transfers. The in-state rushing back, also known as “Hollywood,” transferred out of Oklahoma in December and just revealed his pledge moments ago.
The native of Charlotte redshirted at OU, appearing in just four contests and gaining 42 yards on 11 rushes and one yard on a reception. After he enrols at NC State, his eligibility will last for an additional four years.
After receiving more than thirty offers from colleges including Alabama, Penn State, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and several more, Smothers decided to initially pledge to the Sooners after graduating from high school. In the end, the 5-foot-11, 182-pound running back made it back home. The Wolfpack was among his final teams to target in the 2023 recruiting class.
Smother stated this summer, “[Dave Doeren] stressed that he wants to bring in guys from North Carolina and win with them.” “He also wants us to grow. To be honest, it means a lot that he said that this past weekend while many of us were on campus. It’s wonderful that he wants us to grow and play together.”
In May 2021, Smothers was voted North Carolina High School Player of the Year by the Charlotte Observer and News & Observer after rushing for 1,206 yards and 12 touchdowns in his sophomore campaign. After that, he had an incredible season the next fall, rushing for 1,581 yards and 28 touchdowns, which helped Chambers High of Charlotte, North Carolina, compete in the State Championship. However, he transferred to West Charlotte and missed his senior season because of eligibility difficulties.
