Market for former Cubs star free agents is predicted to heat up.
The Chicago Cubs’ pursuit of pitching continues as the team will likely lose Marcus Stroman to free agency. While he hasn’t signed with anyone, and the Cubs haven’t added a starting pitcher to replace him, the understanding is that he’ll be on a new team in 2024.
According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, Stroman’s marker could “heat up” soon. The San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels, Baltimore Orioles, and Boston Red Sox are the teams showing interest in the right-handed pitcher
The 2023 All-Star had a fantastic season, pitching 136.2 innings, striking out 119 batters with a 3.95 ERA. After receiving the nod in 2019 while playing for the Toronto Blue Jays, Stroman was selected an All-Star for the second time in his career in 2023.
Feinsand notes that Stroman may need to wait for other players to sign, even though the market is heating up for him. Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell are the best remaining arms, and both have garnered interest from players throughout the league. After they finalise their agreements, Stroman might be the next to go.
