From the beginning of the process, Notre Dame gave priority to Burgess. One of the most talented defensive linemen in the 2025 recruiting class is the 6-4, 240-pound pass rusher. Burgess is currently ranked by Rivals as the 61st best player in the class, but if he gains more playing time, it is likely that he will move up the rankings. Here are the current standings of Burgess’s leading candidates as of Saturday.

For a while now, the Irish have been in the upper echelons of the Burgess rankings. He’s been on campus four times total since he was offered back on St. Patrick’s Day. He is a major target for Notre Dame because he is within 90 miles from South Bend. Going into the decision, they are thought to be among the top two candidates for the Chicago native, and excitement is building as the game goes on.

Burgess, who has a strong affinity for Ohio State, has the Buckeyes as his other top choice. Burgess has previously stated that he places a high value on developing into a first-round selection. The Buckeyes undoubtedly tick that box given Larry Johnson’s history of producing first round picks, which includes players like Nick Bosa, Joey Bosa, Chase Young, and Tamba Hali.
