The 2025 Chicago defensive end Christopher Burgess Jr. announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Saturday during the 2024 All-American Bowl, sending shockwaves across the Irish fan base that included Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, and LSU. Another 2025 Greenwich (Conn.) Brunswick School safety, Ethan Long, has
announced that he would be making an announcement about his committment on Monday, January 8 at 5 PM eastern time. This could mean that there will be more significant news soon. The final list of teams includes Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and Wisconsin. The 6-2, 185-pound defensive back will be chosen.
For a while now, Notre Dame has been putting pressure on Long. The Connecticut native immediately established himself as an Irish priority recruit in the class after setting up camp in South Bend last summer. Waiting on Long to finally set a decision date, Notre Dame appears to have been leading the race for some time. If nothing unexpected comes up on Monday, the Irish appear to be the favourites to land Long.
Long had an outstanding season for Brunswick School as a junior. He recorded 56 total tackles, three interceptions, and three additional forced fumbles in nine games. After an outstanding offseason, Long’s recruitment ha
significantly increased. Currently ranked as the No. 27 safety in the 2025 recruiting class by Rivals, he is a four-star prospect who has offers from Pitt, Boston College, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Maryland, Michigan State, UCLA, and Duke, among other schools. Ivan Taylor, a star safety from Florida, has already committed to Notre Dame for the 2025 class. Long would keep supporting what appears to be an excellent group in the secondary the following cycle.
