In an effort to strengthen its roster, Florida State welcomed a few skilled and seasoned transfers to Tallahassee over the weekend. The Seminoles gained another strong defensive lineman for the trenches, so the returns were worthwhile.
Grady Kelly, a defensive tackle transfer from Colorado State, declared his commitment to Florida State on Sunday afternoon after his visit.
“Yes, I did commit. Kelly declared, “Yes, sir, I’m a ‘Nole,” as he concluded his journey.
This is significant for the Seminoles since Fabien Lovett (graduation), Braden Fiske (graduation), Malcolm Ray (transfer), and Ayobami Tifase (transfer) all left the squad for different reasons, meaning the club needed to add at least one interior defensive lineman to the roster. Kelly, who has two more seasons of eligibility, will have the chance to jump directly into the starting lineup when he enters Florida State.
Kelly started his career at Colorado State. He finished the season with 35 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks for the Rams while starting all 12 games and using 536 snaps. Kelly was the first rookie defensive lineman from Colorado State to be named an All-American since 2011. That was a year ago. With 43 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one fumble recovery, and two pass deflections, he tied for seventh place on the squad. College Football News recognised him as a Freshman All-American as a consequence of his achievements.
Kelly was raised in Colorado, but he attended Navarre High School in Florida during his prep school years. In the 2021 class, he was rated as a three-star recruit. During his prep career, he recorded 133 tackles, 47 tackles for loss, and a school-high 26 sacks. In addition, he participated in basketball, weightlifting, and track.
According to 247Sports, the 6-foot-3, 293-pound defensive tackle is rated as the No. 36 defensive lineman and the No. 385 overall prospect, earning him a three-star ranking.
