The Detroit Red Wings’ dismal pattern continues as they have now gone 16 games without a victory while scoring fewer than four goals. They battled back to tie the game against the Boston Bruins in the second period, but in the third, they were plagued by defensive blunders. The Red Wings’ difficult December came to an end as the Bruins defeated them 5-3.

Due to two goals by Bruins forward Trent Frederic late in the first and early in the second period, the Boston Bruins led the Red Wings 2-0. After Frederic scored with a backhand shot, there was a concerning moment when he made touch with goalie Alex Lyon. For more than a minute, Lyon was on the ice clearly uncomfortable as club trainers attended to him, and backup James Reimer was getting ready to play. But Lyon judged himself well enough to go on.

Jake Walman, a defenseman, continued to play well, scoring his third goal in two straight games to trim Detroit’s deficit. Shortly after, Ben Chiarot scored from Detroit’s blue line once more, tying the score at 2-2.
