Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals will see Jeff Driskel start for the Cleveland Browns; if he plays well, there’s a chance he makes it to the postseason.

The Browns have no stake in this Week 18 game. Cleveland will face the AFC South winner in the postseason after securing the No. 5 seed. However, it might affect their depth at quarterback.

After signing on December 29, Driskel was selected as the starting pitcher ahead of PJ Walker. This could be an attempt to reduce the risk of injuries. Alternatively, it might be because the Browns want to examine Driskel more closely as a possible postseason backup for Joe Flacco.

Driskel responded, “I don’t think so,” when asked if he thought of the game as an audition. “Every player in this league represents themselves on the pitch with their resume.” However, our first concern is winning this game, and that’s all I have on my mind. I would be failing this team if I began to consider things that might come up later, either this year or in the future years.”

A few important offensive line starters will be absent for Driskel’s game. Elijah Moore and Amari Cooper, two receivers, are included in this.

Flacco would take a week off against the Bengals, as the Browns had announced earlier in the week. The group is optimistic that Driskel can complete the task, nevertheless. He has familiarity in the Arizona Cardinals system, which contributes to some of that. The offensive coordinator for the Cardinals, Drew Petzing, was formerly with the Browns under Kevin Stefanski.

On Wednesday, January 3, Stefanski remarked, “Jeff’s a guy with the system knowledge from Arizona.” “The backup will be P.J. Walker.” For us, he’s been fantastic. He led us to victory in the games he began. However, I simply thought that in this specific situation, giving Jeff a chance to demonstrate his abilities to us, was the correct thing to do for the team.

Driskel played with the Bengals (2018), Detroit Lions (2019), Denver Broncos (2020), and Houston Texans (2021–2022) in 23 games during his career, including 11 starts. In the games he has started, he is 2–9.
