In the summer of 2022, Strong was appointed as the head of recruitment for the Shrimps after serving in a comparable capacity for three and a half years at Salford.

With a statement posted on their official website, Morecambe expressed gratitude to the 48-year-old for his “excellent service.”

CEO Ben Sadler stated: “We are grateful for the job Greg has done over his 18 months with the club, but we are understandably sad that he is moving on to a new opportunity since he is a top-notch colleague and person.

Greg is a well-liked team member who has played a crucial role in our player acquisition efforts during several transfer windows. Greg has our best wishes for success in his new position.

“We’ve already planned and agreed with Ged (Brannan) and Greg for the upcoming January transfer window, and we look forward to sharing news on signings throughout the month as and when complete.”

Before hanging up his boots, Strong had stints at Bury, Blackpool, and Stoke in addition to Wanderers, which he joined in 1995.

Morecambe is attempting to recover from their third-tier relegation from the previous season, and they are presently ranked 16th in League Two.

Notts County defeated the Shrimps 5-0 on Friday night, led by goals from Dan Crowley, Jodi Jones, and Macaulay Langstaff, who scored a hat trick. On New Year’s Day, they return to action as they host Harrogate, who now sit just one point above them.
