Two players who have been instrumental in the Detroit Red Wings’ rebuild, Carter Mazur and Marco Kasper, appear to be making a developmental move for the Grand Rapids Gryphons.
In his first-ever three-pointer in North America, Kasper recorded a game. Mazur scored a goal and
provided an assist as the Gryphons defeated the Chicago Wolves 6-3 on the road to record their second straight victory. Kasper needs to start scoring more in the AHL, according to the Red Wings. He now has five points in his last five games after recording a goal and two assists against Chicago. After 28 games, Kasper has 12 points.
After a slow start his season coming off an injury, Mazur, 21, now has four goals in his past five games. Mazur looks more like the player he was last spring. He debuted in Grand Rapids with six points in six games.
At the World Junior Championships in Sweden, defenseman Axel Sandin Pellikka (selected 17th overall by the Red Wings in 2023) contributed 19 minutes of play to help Sweden defeat Canada 2-0. For the Swedes, who are among the favourites to win the gold medal, he had one chance on goal. In 25 games thus far this season in the Swedish Hockey League, Sandin Pellikka has nine goals. However, he hasn’t been on the WJC score sheet.
Detroit prospect Anton Johansson (drafted 105th overall in 2022) played three shifts — all in the first period — for the Swedes.
Antti Tuomisto scored against Chicago. He has two goals and three points in eight games for the Griffins. He started his season late because of injury…Elmer Soderblom picked up an assist against the Wolves to give him four points in three games.
