After the midfield player scored a hat-trick the previous week, Angel Torres scored twice, while Marco Tulio was narrowly denied a double of his own.

Since their 2014 visit, this was the Mariners’ first victory at Suncorp Stadium in ten games.

Brisbane had 60% of the possession and five shots on goal compared to the visitors’ four.

Although intense rain and lightning caused the start to be postponed for fifteen minutes, Roar coach Ross Aloisi acknowledged that it could have been worse for his team on a dry night. In actuality, though, the Mariners were in control.

After three victories in their last five games, the Mariners have now scored 15 goals.

Nick Montgomery was replaced by Jackson, who believes they can be even more clinical.

“It’s always difficult at the start of season, I had to stand in front of the players and ask them to trust us to stick to the process,” he stated.

It’s hard to do that when results don’t materialise, yet they persisted in their work.

“We’re expanding… As a team, I still think we have a lot more ahead of us.”

6855 drenched people watched as rain dropped throughout the whole match, but the ground, which still had signs of a Foo Fighters gig nine days prior, seemed to hold up nicely.

Aloisi, who was forced to play backwards since his team lost the physical battle despite missing five players due to injuries, acknowledged as much.

This led to a few defensive blunders, with Tulio twice finding space following a through pass; ultimately, a protracted VAR process resulted in the second goal being reversed.

After another back ball was misdirected in front of the goal, Torres scored his first goal. In the closing moments, he sealed the victory with his left boot.

With 12 minutes remaining, Alex Parsons’ long-range left-footed shot went just wide of the post, giving the Roar a couple good opportunities.

The excellent cross from Rylan Brownlie caused custodian Danny Vukovic to dive low to stop Jez Lofthouse’s close-range deflection in the 87th minute.
