Another addition to Auburn football’s transfer site is this.
Auburn has received a commitment from Cal Golden Bears quarterback Sam Jackson V, according to Tigers social media.
Earlier in the season, Jackson faced Auburn and completed 14 of 27 passes for 129 yards and two interceptions. Jackson completed 55.3% of his throws for 696 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions over his three seasons with TCU and Cal.
In Auburn’s commitment graphic, Jackson is listed as a receiver for the Tigers. At Chicago’s suburb of Naperville Central, he was a high school football player.
Jackson moved around and shaped himself to the team’s liking during his time at Naperville to gain access to the pitch. Because Auburn now has Payton Thorne at quarterback, that included a switch from quarterback to receiver.
We both play the same position, but I choose to play instead of watching from the sidelines. In 2018, Jackson told the Central Times, “I tried to contribute to the team by [becoming a] receiver and being one of his main targets.”
Jackson remarked, “I kind of look up to Payton Thorne.” “He’s an excellent leader who is well-versed in the game.”
That season, the pair had a lot of energy. As a transfer, Jackson shot to prominence, hauling in 50 catches for 847 yards and 14 touchdowns.
It was evident that Jackson benefited immensely from being a receiver in Thorne’s offence following an impressive 92-yard effort against Naperville North in the middle of the season.
Jackson remarked, “To have a guy like Payton is crazy because he can make plays or extend plays” (Chicago Tribune/Naperville Sun). We started working together as soon as I learned that I would be moving here. Payton can hit anybody and is a pocket passer with targets down the field.
