Calvin Johnson took almost three years to like, like, and respond to a January 2021 Lions post on X congratulating him on being selected as a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

However, Johnson replied to the tweet with, “Much appreciated,” following Detroit’s first division triumph since winning the NFC Central in 1993. I appreciate your unwavering support. adore my city

With his relationship with the team deteriorated since his abrupt retirement following the 2015 season, it was odd that the Lions’ triumph over the Vikings coincided with Johnson’s tardy answer.

At the age of thirty, Johnson took the decision to retire following nine seasons, seven of which saw him surpass 1,000 yards, and six trips to the Pro Bowl. However, it is alleged that the Lions forced Johnson to return nearly $1.6 million of his signing bonus.

In February, he told The Post’s Ryan Glasspiegel that he and the Lions are “trending up” in their relationship. He did not, however, elaborate on whether or not those developments were related to the financial aspect of their conflict. Meanwhile, the team underwent a transformation under head coach Dan Campbell.

Johnson stated to The Post at the time, “We’re trying to come together and make something happen.” Of course, I’d like to be closer to the team, participate in more activities, and support the men. We’re headed in the right direction, which is wonderful.

He conducted a high-scDespite playing for some teams that had terrible records at the end of the season, Johnson had become the Lions’ star for almost ten years.

In 2012, Detroit managed just four victories despite Johnson’s 1,964 receiving yards.

The Lions then qualified for just the second — and final — postseason of Johnson’s career, falling to the Cowboys on a late touchdown, in between 7-9 seasons in 2013 and 2015.
