Even though they selected Victor Wembanyama first overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs have had a dismal start to the 2023–24 campaign. Although Wembanyama has displayed glimpses of being a spectacular two-way player, the Spurs team as a whole obviously lacks the skill needed to compete in a strong Western Conference.
In actuality, the Spurs lost to the Milwaukee Bucks 132-119 on Tuesday, carrying on with their bad luck. With this loss, San Antonio’s record drops to 4-22 for the year, which is “good” for worst in the conference. It’s unclear when the Spurs’ decline in the standings will stop.
Even still, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is sticking with the plan because he believes in building confidence in a young team, even though he has been successful for two decades running. Furthermore, Popovich made it clear that he will follow the Spurs through good times and bad, in health and illness, and until death do them part. In other words, the Spurs are his ride or die team.
In reality, the Spurs continued their unlucky streak on Tuesday as they fell to the Milwaukee Bucks 132-119. San Antonio’s season record now stands at 4-22, which is “good” for worst in the conference, following this loss. When the Spurs’ slide down the standings will end is unknown.
Even though he has led the Spurs to victory for the past 20 years, head coach Gregg Popovich is remaining true to the plan because he thinks a youthful squad should be given confidence. It is also very evident that Popovich will stick with the Spurs in good times and bad, in health and in sickness, and until death do them part. Put otherwise, the Spurs are a “ride or die” team for him.
