When asked who his teammate Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers should be the MVP of this season, Brock Purdy will respond in the affirmative. McCaffrey will shift the focus back to Purdy if you pose him the same query.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan was hesitant to support a team because he didn’t want to go afoul of the law for doing so.
“That’s the only reason I wouldn’t overly comment on either one of them because I don’t want them to cancel each other out,” Shanahan stated last week. But I don’t get how Christian McCaffrey can’t win MVP if any non-quarterback can. He’s been doing fantastic things this year, really.
“I don’t have it if it’s going to a quarterback.”
“I don’t need to discuss Christian if it’s going to a quarterback. I’m able to discuss our quarterback. And that, in my opinion, settles the matter if all you see are his numbers. The most crucial part, in my opinion, is that it becomes more stronger if you watch the movie.”
During a recent appearance on 49ers linebacker Fred Warner’s podcast, “The Warner House,” NFL star and Bay Area icon Jerry Rice was asked who ought to earn the prized award. Not even the Hall of Fame wide receiver could decide on a side.
“I don’t think we could win a title without Brock Purdy. Without CMC, I don’t think we could win a title. I’m not sure how this will play out, but I believe both of them truly deserve it.”
Warner proposed dividing the prize in two and awarding the trophy to each player individually. Purdy and McCaffrey would most likely agree with you on that point.
“I’m going to go back to Brock because Brock reminds me a lot of [QB Joe] Montana, his coolness,” Rice said, continuing to praise the two players. It is essential for your quarterback to be unfazed by anything, and he never gives up. And CMC does it all—he rushes, catches the ball, comes out of the backfield, and scores touchdowns.”
