KY — LEXINGTON During Alabama’s victory over Kentucky on the road on Saturday, their top receiver was absent. In addition, another wide receiver and two starters on defence were out for the Crimson Tide.

“We probably had more guys out today than ever before,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban remarked following the contest.

Jermaine Burton missed time due to illness. Ja’Corey Brooks was sidelined due to a shoulder ailment. Additionally, due to injuries they received during the LSU game, safety Jaylen Key and linebacker Deontae Lawson were sidelined.

“Jermaine was so sick he didn’t even make the trip,” stated Saban. “Hopefully he’ll get better and that won’t be a long term thing.”

Burton has 26 catches for 537 yards and five touchdowns this season. Ten different Alabama players caught at least one pass against Kentucky while he was out.

Lawson and Key, according to Saban, are day-to-day as Alabama prepares for Chattanooga this week.

“I was really pleased with the way the guys that filled in today that took their place,” remarked Saban. “We had to rearrange our secondary players. Jihaad [Campbell] and Trez Marshall, who had sustained an injury himself, both performed admirably today. Thus, those guys gained some invaluable experience that will benefit us in the future.”

On the opening drive of the first quarter, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe was injured in the knee and had to be helped off the field after a 16-yard scramble. But after being examined by the medical team, he can work off the pitch. Milroe did not miss a single play.
