HOUSTON — Astros sluggers Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker took home Second Team honors on Saturday during MLB Network’s All-MLB Team Show presented by MGM Rewards.

Despite missing six weeks of play due to an oblique injury, Alvarez batted.293 in 114 games last season with 31 home runs, 97 RBIs, a.407 on-base percentage, and a.990 OPS. With a complete season of effort, the designated hitter would have undoubtedly finished higher in the American League MVP vote this year, where he ended 13th.

Despite not playing due to an injury, Alvarez was named to his second career All-Star squad after starting the season with a 36-game on-base streak that set a club record. In ten straight plate appearances on August 28–29 in Boston, he reached base.The outfielder was named the Astros’ Most Valuable Player by the Houston Chapter of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Tucker finished fifth in the AL MVP voting with a slash line of.284/.369/.517, 29 home runs, 30 steals, and an AL-leading 112 RBIs. This summer, he was named to his second All-Star team and won his first AL Silver Slugger Award.

Tucker batted .354 with runners in scoring position and hit three homers in a game for the first time on July 21 at Oakland. He also became the first player in Astros history to triple twice in one inning, on Sept. 10 vs. the Padres.

All-MLB honors, first established in 2019, recognize the best players at each position across the Majors each season. Fan voting accounted for half of the selection process, with the other 50% coming from a panel of media members, broadcasters, former players and other baseball officials. Voters were asked to consider only performance during the regular season.
