Pittsburgh — Following a humiliating defeat to the Indianapolis Colts in which the Pittsburgh Steelers were scoreless for the last 34:07 in regulation, head coach Mike Tomlin was at a loss for words over his team’s subpar performance.
When asked who the Steelers’ starting quarterback will be when they play the Cincinnati Bengals at Acrisur Stadium the following week, Tomlin was similarly unable to provide an answer
Tomlin stated, “As I sit here right now, I don’t have answers.” “I am aware that there are some things we should change. We had better take a different tack on a few issues. Next week, we won’t present the information in that manner.”
Right now, there are some complex dynamics at play in the quarterback room of the Steelers.
In lieu of the injured Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky started the game for the second time in a row. He completed 16 of 23 throws for 169 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions until Mason Rudolph benched him late in the fourth quarter. Regarding Trubisky’s performance versus the Colts, Tomlin shifted the responsibility to himself when questioned.
Tomlin declared, “None of us were good enough.” “Starting first and foremost with myself.”
In his one series on the field, Rudolph completed two passes for three yards out of a total of three passes thrown.
Trubisky’s benching may suggest that Tomlin isn’t sure which player offers him the best potential to win in the future.
But the Steelers also could get Pickett back as soon as next week. He was expected to miss up to four games as he recovers from an ankle injury. Now it could be just three weeks between his injury and return to the field.
