When it comes to acquiring possible advantages over the Michigan Wolverines in the College Football Playoff semifinal, the Alabama Crimson Tide are not skimping on anything.
Bruce Feldman and Kennington Smith III of The Athletic report that George Helow, the former linebackers coach at Michigan, will be joining Alabama prior to the Rose Bowl. Helow, who served as Michigan’s staff member in 2021 and 2022, will join the Crimson Tide right away.
Helow did, however, have prior ties to Alabama; in 2012, he began his coaching career as a defensive intern under Nick Saban. But in many respects, the hiring’s timing speaks for itself. As they get ready for the national semifinal, the Crimson Tide probably hope that Helow can shed some light on Michigan’s defensive scheme. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Helow coached Michigan’s linebackers for two years. Chris Partridge, who did not finish the season with Michigan after being fired for interfering with the NCAA’s investigation into the program’s alleged sign-stealing, took his place after he left after the 2022 season.
